Hero Splendor leads India’s two-wheeler sales surge

The Hero Splendor held its position as India’s top-selling two-wheeler in August 2026, with 353,842 units sold—a 13.52% increase compared to the same period last year. The top 10 two-wheelers registered 13,28,231 units last month as volumes were up 8.41% from 12,25,232 units in the same month last year. The Splendor’s sales gave it a 26.64 per cent market share, and together with the Activa the two models made up 45.90 per cent of all registrations.
The Splendor’s lead strengthened further with a 42,144-unit rise from the prior year, the largest absolute gain among the top four. Honda’s Activa secured second place with 255,815 units sold, reflecting a 4.73% increase. The Honda Shine and TVS Jupiter followed, with sales growth of 10.16% and 3.54%, respectively. The top four models registered 9,37,733 units between them and accounted for 70.60% of the top 10 volume. The gap between Jupiter (fourth) and Pulsar (fifth) was 49,611 units.
In contrast, the Bajaj Pulsar experienced a 10.55% drop to 97,839 units, the only decline among the top five. The Hero HF Deluxe performed worse, falling 22.25% to 69,794 units, the steepest percentage loss in the ranking. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Access and TVS Apache both recorded double-digit gains, with the Apache’s 22.39% rise marking the second-highest percentage increase after the Bajaj Chetak. The Pulsar’s fall equated to an 11,543-unit drop year-on-year.
The Bajaj Chetak emerged as the fastest-growing model, with sales surging 272.83% to 52,248 units. This surge made it the best-selling electric two-wheeler in the country, surpassing its August 2025 total by 38,234 units. The TVS XL100 maintained steady growth, increasing 4.67% to 45,936 units. With 52,248 units, the Chetak ranked ninth overall, confirming its lead as the top-selling electric scooter.
The overall two-wheeler market expanded, but the data reveals a shift toward electric alternatives. The Chetak’s performance indicates rising consumer interest in electric scooters, even as traditional models like the Splendor and Activa remain dominant in volume. The gap between the Splendor and Activa, 98,027 units, highlights the Splendor’s continued appeal as an entry-level commuter choice. The Splendor’s 26.64% share shows its dominance in the entry-level commuter segment.
The Suzuki Access logged 69,558 units, just 236 units behind the HF Deluxe, while the Apache added 10,085 bikes, bolstering the mid-size scooter market.
