The Royal Enfield Social Mission announces its third Himalayan festival in New Delhi

The third annual Journeying Across The Himalayas event, organized by Royal Enfield Social Mission, will take place from December 3 to December 9, 2026, at Travancore Palace in New Delhi. This seven-day celebration will showcase more than 100 programs developed in collaboration with Himalayan communities, artists, and cultural experts. This year’s edition expands significantly compared to past events, featuring over 25 installations and exhibitions, more than 20 live musical performances, 20 culinary experiences, and 50 workshops and discussions. The festival will also reintroduce the Himalayan Bazaar, which will include 45 local brands and craft cooperatives, along with 10 exclusive collections available only during the event. These additions introduce a dedicated retail component to the festival lineup.

Artistic and community-driven narratives dominate the programming. “Before Time by Gautam Pandey explores Ladakh’s ancient petroglyphs and Into the Himalayas offers a virtual-reality look at snow leopard habitat”. “The Unquiet Orchard by Vibha Galhotra examines traditional beekeeping and modern apiculture and The Gaddi Suitcase focuses on Gaddi and Bhangali pastoral communities through sound, miniatures and Kangri folk music.”

Musical performances will include acts by Taba Chake, Raman Negi, and Aabha Hanjura, alongside a newly developed performing arts segment created in partnership with the Oddbird Foundation. The festival’s culinary offerings will center around the Chouka courtyard, featuring sessions on regional dishes and tea traditions from Kalimpong, Assam, Sikkim, Shillong, Nagaland, and Himachal Pradesh.

The festival’s overarching theme, “Becoming,” explores how Himalayan communities adapt to climate change, geographic shifts, migration patterns, and technological advancements. Attendees can participate in workshops covering topics like manga illustration and craft design, as well as discussions with artisans, local residents, and specialists. Additionally, daily film screenings will be curated by the Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) through its DIFF On the Road initiative.

The 2026 festival follows last year’s event, which attracted over 11,000 visitors and representatives from more than 50 Himalayan communities. Highlights from the 2025 edition included a recreation of Meghalaya’s living root bridges, a Sand Mandala creation by monks from Namgyal Monastery, and performances by Northeast India music legends Lou Majaw, Rudy Wallang, and Joi Barua.

Journeying Across The Himalayas aligns with Royal Enfield Social Mission’s broader regional initiatives. The organization aims to collaborate with 100 Himalayan communities by 2030, supporting projects in climate adaptation, textile preservation, biodiversity conservation, heritage documentation, winter sports, and sustainable tourism. The December festival provides a platform to showcase these community-driven efforts, blending cultural heritage, ecological awareness, and traditional practices into a week-long experience.
