Jaguar Type 01 interior is now visible

Jaguar has unveiled the interior of its upcoming Type 01 ahead of the vehicle’s official debut slated for October 6 in New York, offering a first look at what the British marque calls an “architectural drama” cabin.
Prototype preview during Monterey Car Week
The Type 01 will appear as a prototype wrapped in a fresh skin at Monterey Car Week, culminating with a display at the Pebble Beach Concours on August 16. The preview follows the earlier Type 00 concept, which generated mixed reactions when revealed in December 2024, shortly after the company announced a controversial rebranding effort.
Design cues and layout
The brand says the interior draws inspiration from the “enduring beauty of travertine stone and the rich textures of artisan textiles.” A central spine runs the full length of the cabin, a feature carried over from the Type 00 concept. The spine, finished in a brass‑inspired tone, divides the space into four individual zones and continues along the tops of the doors, where the leaper logo is also displayed.
From an overhead perspective, the driver’s area features a long top dash that leads to a large display integrating both instrument cluster and infotainment functions. A separate touchscreen mounted on the central spine provides quick access to climate and media controls.
Other highlighted elements include a sculpted two‑spoke steering wheel, smooth seat upholstery, and a sizable panoramic glass roof. Jaguar also mentions concealed compartments, hidden‑until‑needed technologies, and unexpected pops of colour throughout the cabin.
Notably, the vehicle lacks a traditional rear‑view mirror, as there is no rear window. Instead, the brand employs a “ClearSight Rear View Display,” a digital screen positioned at the base of the windscreen that shows a feed from a rear‑facing camera. The company claims the display sits at the same height as the door mirrors to aid driver focus.
“Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to follow our new creative philosophy. Unmistakable from every angle, the interior is no different. With Type 01, we wanted every journey to be an occasion, from how it drives to how it looks and how it makes you feel. With a confidence‑inspiring GT driving position, clean and sophisticated technology and dramatic styling, Type 01 has an interior like no other,” said Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar.

It feels futuristic.
The model will be the first Jaguar built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), with design, development, and production of the electric vehicle taking place in the United Kingdom.
Compared with earlier electric models from other luxury brands, the brand’s approach of a full‑width central spine is reminiscent of past attempts to create distinct cabin zones, yet it pushes the idea further by integrating brass‑tone accents that echo classic automotive detailing. This blend of heritage cues with modern EV architecture may signal a broader trend toward more tactile, material‑focused interiors in the electric segment.
While the prototype’s wrap is still a temporary skin, the interior details suggest the company is aiming for a premium feel that differentiates the Type 01 from competitors. The inclusion of a panoramic roof and a central digital display aligns with current consumer expectations for openness and connectivity.
Industry observers will watch how the ClearSight Rear View Display performs in real‑world conditions, as eliminating the rear mirror entirely is still a relatively rare choice among mass‑market EVs. The decision reflects confidence in camera‑based systems, but it may also raise questions about driver adaptation and regulatory acceptance in various markets.
Overall, the early interior reveal provides a concrete sense of the design language the marque intends to carry forward into its first EV built on the JEA platform. The final production model, expected at the October 6 New York event, will confirm whether the prototype’s features translate into a market‑ready vehicle.
