Xpeng L03 Electric Car Heads to Malaysia

Xpeng is expanding its lineup with the L03, a more affordable model that’s set to rival the Proton eMas 5 and BYD Atto 3 in Southeast Asia. The L03 was recently previewed at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), indicating its impending launch in right-hand-drive countries, including Australia and potentially Malaysia.

The L03 measures 4,650 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, positioning it as a competitor to other compact SUVs in the market. Its dimensions are similar to those of the Proton eMas 5 and the BYD Atto 3, although the L03 has a slightly longer wheelbase.

Powertrain options for the L03 include fully-electric versions with different range capabilities. The RWD Standard Range model produces 245 PS (180 kW) and 264 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The 58.3 kWh LFP battery provides a WLTP-rated range of up to 445 km.

Stepping up to the RWD Long Range model shortens the century sprint to 6.6 seconds, with a larger 71.2 kWh battery and upgraded charging capacity to 236 kW. The Performance variant utilizes dual motors for all-wheel drive, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, although its range is the shortest at 440 km.

The L03 features a fastback-shaped design with a streamlined shape, active grille shutter, and flush pull-up door handles, contributing to a drag coefficient as low as 0.228. Inside, it retains Xpeng’s minimalist design language, with an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 26.8-inch head-up display.

The infotainment system uses the latest XOS 6 with a rebuilt AI-driven voice control system, claimed to support more natural conversations. Other features include a heat-insulating panoramic glass roof, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats.

For potential buyers in Southeast Asia, the L03’s launch means a new option in the compact SUV segment. With its competitive range and features, the L03 could attract buyers looking for an alternative to existing models.
