Mercedes-AMG E 53 arrives in India at 1.45 crore
The 2026 Mercedes-AMG E 53 has arrived in India, priced at Rs. 1.45 crore (ex-showroom). The luxury performance sedan is available in two variants: the standard Performance Edition and the Racing Edition, which costs Rs. 1.48 crore.
Hybrid powertrain delivers 585 HP
Under the hood, the AMG E 53 packs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system. The setup includes an electric motor and a 21.2 kWh battery, producing a combined output of 585 HP and 750 Nm of torque.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The Racing Edition, however, comes with the AMG Driver’s Package, raising the top speed to 280 km/h.
The battery supports DC fast charging, taking about 20 minutes to reach 80% capacity on a 60 kW charger. An 11 kW AC charger fully replenishes the battery in roughly 2.25 hours. Mercedes claims an electric-only range of up to 100 km.
Performance upgrades and AMG styling
The AMG E 53 stands apart from the standard E-Class with several mechanical enhancements. These include an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential, AMG-tuned air suspension, rear-axle steering, and a high-performance braking system.
The exterior gets a sportier look with the signature Panamericana grille, redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes, and wider fenders. Other details include AMG side skirts, flush-fitting door handles, 20-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and quad exhaust outlets.
The cabin features AMG-specific touches like a performance steering wheel, illuminated door sills, and sports seats with heating. The dashboard houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.4-inch touchscreen for infotainment, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The India-spec model skips the optional passenger-side display found in some global variants.
For those who spend long hours behind the wheel, the car’s hybrid system might feel like overkill—until the electric range kicks in during city traffic. The instant torque from the electric motor smooths out acceleration, making stop-and-go driving less taxing than in a traditional performance sedan.
Tech and safety features
The AMG E 53 comes loaded with tech, including a Burmester surround sound system, head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, and fingerprint authentication. Ambient lighting with logo projection and automatic climate control add to the luxury feel.
Safety features include a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring, and a driver monitoring system. Rear sunblinds are also standard.
The Racing Edition doesn’t just add speed—it also includes additional track-focused tweaks, though Mercedes hasn’t detailed what those are beyond the higher top speed. The car’s hybrid setup, meanwhile, might appeal to buyers looking for a mix of performance and efficiency, though the premium over the standard E-Class is steep.
