Maruti Suzuki to Launch Electric MPV by 2027
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its next electric vehicle, an MPV codenamed ‘YMC’. They plan to unveil it by the end of 2026 and launch it in the first quarter of 2027.
This move follows the introduction of the e Vitara, with Maruti Suzuki adopting a domestic-focused strategy rather than expanding its electric vehicle lineup extensively.
The YMC will compete with the Kia Carens Clavis Electric, which has not yet gained significant traction since its launch in July 2025.
In terms of design, the YMC is expected to resemble the e Vitara, sharing features like the bonnet, A-pillar, and 18-inch aero alloy wheels. The rear may draw inspiration from the Maruti Ertiga, featuring L-shaped tail lamps.
The interior is likely to mirror the e Vitara’s design, including the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Maruti Suzuki will offer seven- and six-seat configurations, with the latter including captain’s chairs in the second row.
Performance and Features
The YMC is anticipated to come in two variants. The base model will feature a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 142 hp and 193 Nm of torque, paired with a 49 kWh LFP battery pack, offering a range of around 415 kilometers.
The top variant will include a more powerful motor with 172 hp and a larger 61 kWh battery, potentially providing a range of 515 kilometers.
Maruti Suzuki is also expected to include advanced features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging, and ventilated front seats.
Safety features are likely to include seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and advanced driver assistance systems such as Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.
The inclusion of a panoramic sunroof is uncertain, but its absence in the e Vitara suggests it might be omitted in the YMC as well, which could be a missed opportunity for a family-oriented vehicle.
Technically, the YMC will likely use a permanent magnet synchronous motor across both variants, ensuring efficient performance and a smooth driving experience. This setup aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s focus on delivering reliable and practical electric vehicles for the domestic market.
