Maruti Suzuki to Add ADAS to Fronx
Maruti Suzuki is set to extend advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to more of its models, with the Fronx expected to receive the upgrade next. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader goal of making safety technology widely available across its lineup, particularly for budget-conscious buyers in India—a priority market for deployment.
This strategy represents a significant shift from Maruti’s earlier focus on affordability without incorporating high-tech safety features. While the company has historically kept safety options accessible, recent updates indicate ADAS is now a central component of its product planning. The Fronx, which already includes ADAS in certain global markets, such as autonomous braking and lane-keeping, currently lacks the full system in India. Existing features on the model include cruise control on higher trims and connected-car technology, though the ADAS suite remains incomplete.
The company has already introduced ADAS on the e Vitara, a Level 2 system featuring adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. The electric SUV also comes standard with seven airbags. Additionally, Maruti has made six airbags standard across 16 models and 160 variants, framing the move as an effort to broaden access to advanced safety features.
A key aspect of Maruti’s approach is its intention to integrate ADAS across different vehicle segments, not just SUVs or premium trims. The refreshed Baleno, for instance, now includes Level 2 ADAS with radar and camera technology, alongside upgrades such as ventilated front seats. This suggests the company may soon expand ADAS to other models, including hatchbacks and mid-size sedans.
India’s varied pricing structure, spanning entry-level cars to premium SUVs, provides an ideal environment for testing this strategy. By incorporating ADAS into lower-cost models, Maruti could engage a much larger customer base than competitors who focus primarily on premium segments.
