Indonesian EV maker unveils Aletra L7 MPV

Indonesian automaker Aletra introduced its second electric vehicle at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, marking its entry into the country’s competitive low-cost MPV market.
Aletra L7 targets buyers with 430 km range
The Aletra L7, revealed at the event in BSD City, offers a more affordable option than the brand’s first model, the L8. That larger MPV, based on China’s Livan 8, launched last year priced at Rp 488 million (about $30,500).
The new model will compete with Indonesia’s top-selling low MPVs, including the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Honda BR-V, and Mitsubishi Xpander. Unlike those gasoline-powered vehicles, the L7 runs entirely on electricity, powered by a 51.8-kWh battery that delivers a targeted range of 430 km.
Measuring 4,550 mm long and 1,705 mm wide, the L7 is slightly longer than the Avanza but narrower. Its tall, boxy shape resembles the Nissan Serena or Honda StepWGN, though with smaller windows. Ground clearance stands at 150 mm, which is lower than most rivals in the segment.

The company will offer both six- and seven-seat layouts, with the six-seater featuring middle-row captain’s chairs. Production is set to begin in October, timed with the opening of Aletra’s new headquarters.
Competition in the budget electric MPV segment
The L7 enters a market where the BYD M6 EV currently leads. The M6 starts at Rp 395 million (about $24,700) and includes sliding doors, a feature the L7 does not have. While the M6 has become the default choice for budget-conscious EV buyers, Aletra believes a more traditional design could attract customers.
Most low MPVs in Indonesia still rely on gasoline, but interest in affordable electric alternatives is rising. The L7’s range and dimensions make it suitable for families, though its narrower body and reduced ground clearance may limit its use in rural areas with poor road conditions.
The vehicle remains a prototype for now. Aletra has not disclosed pricing. The auto show continues until August 11, featuring the L7 alongside other new models from local and international manufacturers.
