The BMW F 450 R weighs 175 kg, meeting India’s A2 license weight limit for riders.

BMW Motorrad has introduced the F 450 R, a road-focused naked bike designed for Indian riders. The model joins the brand’s 450 cc lineup with a 420 cc parallel-twin engine tuned specifically for urban and highway use, marking its first appearance outside the F 450 GS adventure platform.

This setup, combined with a 6-speed gearbox and X-ring chain drive, ensures responsive power delivery for city and highway riding. The bike’s ready-to-ride weight sits at 175 kg, placing it in India’s A2 license category for easier accessibility.

Fuel efficiency is a key selling point, with a claimed 3.8 litres per 100 km consumption. A 14-litre tank provides a range of over 350 km, while the 10,000 km service interval aligns with practical ownership costs. The F 450 R is expected to arrive in India early next year, following its debut in other markets.

Ride modes and electronics play a central role in the bike’s appeal. Standard features include Rain, Road, and Dynamic modes, along with ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, and Dynamic Traction Control. Higher trims introduce Riding Modes Pro, which adds a Dynamic Pro setting, while Shift Assistant Pro enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts—standard on all variants except the base model.

The chassis combines a tubular steel space frame with the engine acting as a structural element. Front suspension uses a 43 mm KYB USD fork, with the Sport Suspension option adding adjustable compression and rebound. The rear features a hollow-cast aluminium double-sided swingarm and a KYB monoshock with adjustable preload. 17-inch cast aluminium wheels pair with 110/70-17 and 150/60-17 tubeless tyres for a balanced ride.

Braking is handled by a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper, supported by a dual-channel ABS system. Seat height is 790 mm as standard, with optional 775 mm (low) and 810 mm (sport) adjustments. Forged aluminium foot controls and a reversible shift pattern cater to both street and occasional track use.

The 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster includes navigation, calls, and music functions. M Sport variants add Sport display layouts with DTC, braking force, lean angle, and a lap timer. Standard equipment also covers full LED lighting, heated grips, and a USB-C port, while the top-tier Innovation Package introduces the Easy Ride Clutch—a system that automates clutch engagement based on engine speed while retaining manual control.

Compared to other entry-level twins like the KTM 390 Duke or Yamaha MT-07, the F 450 R leans into BMW’s signature refinement. Its torque delivery and weight distribution suggest a focus on rideability over raw performance, aligning with the brand’s approach to accessible sportiness. The Easy Ride Clutch and adjustable suspension further position it as a practical choice for urban commuters who still want track-ready flexibility.
