Bajaj Auto announced plans to upgrade its 125-160cc motorcycle range after reporting record financial results for the April-June quarter. The move is intended to strengthen its position in one of India’s most competitive two-wheeler segments, though the company has not yet shared specifics.

Upgrades planned but specifics unclear

Bajaj Auto did not reveal which models will receive updates, whether the changes will cover its entire 125-160cc portfolio, or when the new versions will launch. Its current lineup in this segment includes the Pulsar series and the Freedom motorcycle.

The company stated in its earnings report that updates introduced across the Pulsar lineup contributed to market share gains. The sporty motorcycle category, which includes the Pulsar, Avenger, and Dominar brands, saw a 50% year-on-year increase during the quarter. All three brands achieved double-digit growth.

These improvements are part of a broader strategy outlined in the annual report. The automaker aims to reinforce its leadership in the domestic 125cc-plus motorcycle market while expanding its electric vehicle business, premium brands like KTM and Triumph, and international sales.

For now, it has not disclosed technical details.

Record sales and profits fuel expansion

The announcement follows Bajaj Auto’s strongest quarterly performance to date. Revenue increased 37% year-on-year to ₹17,244 crore, while profit after tax rose 42% to ₹2,983 crore. EBITDA grew 45% to ₹3,596 crore, with operating margins reaching 20.9%.

Vehicle sales reached a new high, with 1.44 million units sold during the quarter—a 29% increase over the same period last year. Two-wheeler sales climbed 29% to 1.22 million units, while exports surged 52%, marking the highest quarterly export volumes in the company’s history.

Domestic two-wheeler sales grew 11%, and commercial vehicle sales increased 33% to 215,699 units.

The company is also investing in expanding capacity for electric vehicles and premium motorcycles. It is exploring alternative sourcing strategies to reduce supply chain risks and supporting KTM’s financial recovery.

Market competition heats up

The 125-160cc segment is highly competitive. Bajaj Auto has established a strong presence with its sportier models, particularly the Pulsar series.

The company’s financial strength allows for experimentation. With record profits and strong export growth, it has the resources to invest in product development and capacity expansion. Still, the absence of a clear timeline means customers may face a long wait before seeing any changes.

The upgrades remain a promise rather than a concrete plan. Until Bajaj Auto provides more details, dealers can only assure customers that better models are on the way.
