Nearly 80% of the registered buyers have no prior Jaguar ownership, defying assumptions that the brand’s legacy appeal would anchor loyalty.

Jaguar’s transition to an all-electric lineup has already attracted over 50,000 potential customers through its “Keep Me Informed” program, where buyers opt in for updates on the brand’s electric plans. The figures indicate the automaker’s dramatic move away from internal-combustion sedans and sports cars is gaining traction with a fresh audience. This shift marks a departure from Jaguar’s long-standing identity as a maker of high-performance gas-powered vehicles.

Nearly 80% of the registered buyers have no prior Jaguar ownership, defying assumptions that the brand’s legacy appeal would anchor loyalty. Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, confirmed in a recent interview that up to 85% of existing customers may not continue under the electric-only plan. The strategy now focuses on a more affluent, niche market—directly competing with brands like Bentley rather than mainstream rivals such as BMW or Mercedes-Benz. This reorientation reflects Jaguar’s intent to reposition itself as an ultra-premium electric specialist.

The cornerstone of this transformation is the Type 01, Jaguar’s first all-electric grand tourer. Unlike earlier models like the XE or XF, which catered to broader luxury buyers, the Type 01 emphasizes cutting-edge design and an exclusive price point. Its success hinges on whether it delivers the performance, refinement, and ownership experience expected from a vehicle priced in the six figures. The design language and target demographic signal a deliberate break from Jaguar’s traditional customer base.

While the registration numbers are encouraging, converting interest into actual sales remains uncertain, particularly in a market where electric vehicle demand fluctuates. Jaguar has ruled out reintroducing gasoline or hybrid models, leaving no flexibility if buyers resist the all-electric direction. The brand’s ability to sustain momentum will depend on how the Type 01 performs once it enters showrooms and sales figures become public. Early adopters will determine whether Jaguar’s gamble on exclusivity pays off.

The 50,000 registrations represent a critical validation of Jaguar’s bold strategy. By abandoning its legacy formula, the brand risks alienating longtime supporters but may attract a new tier of buyers willing to adopt an electric future. The ultimate test, however, lies in whether these potential customers follow through with purchases, especially at premium pricing that diverges sharply from Jaguar’s historical offerings.
